Rev Richard….

THE Joy of Easter Sunday was tinged with sadness as it was the last service our much-loved Vicar, Rev Richard Ward-Smith for the last five years would be leading at the Parish Church. The Church Bells rang out and the Church was a picture with the old rugged Cross with a Crown of Thorns surrounded by Easter Lilies a focal point in the porch, the Easter Garden at the rear of the Church and beautiful arrangements of spring flowers including many, many daffodils, all of which were grown, picked and given by people of the parish for the occasion. Organist for the service was Luke Francis. A large congregation for the service consisted of members and friends of the Church together with Methodists and others in the Parish who had got to know Rev Richard and his wife Lynne so well. Lessons were read by Rev Richard’s sister Judy and brother Will and Easter Prayers were led by Worship Leader Richard Painter. Holy Communion was administered by the Vicar assisted by Arthur Bryant. At the close of the service, Arthur Bryant gave a vote of thanks to Rev Richard and his wife Lynne for their five years Ministry with us and listed the many spheres of Parish life they have been so fully involved with. As well as a round of applause there were ‘three cheers’ and the singing of ‘For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow’. A Bring-And-Share Tea Party is scheduled for Sunday 10th April at 3.30pm in the Old Vicarage by kind permission of Jill and Richard Wellby, when all that know Richard and Lynne are welcome to come and say farewell and many thanks and to mark their retirement. We are pleased to add that Rev Richard and Lynne will be remaining in the area.
