ANNUAL FETE and Garden Party was held in the grounds of the Old Vicarage on Sunday 7th August by kind invitation of Jill and Richard Wellby. Dry weather was a blessing and despite a seemingly lower attendance than usual the stalls, sideshows and various competitions were all popular and the sound of Bude Town Band in the background conducted by Myra Inch created a relaxing atmosphere. Cream Teas were available throughout both inside and outside the house throughout the afternoon. The grand sum of £500 was raised for Parish Church funds.
BLESSING of the Sea was held at Duckpool Beach on Sunday 14th August. A group of parishioners gathered in the field by King Williams Bridge and processed to the beach behind Bude Town Band, singing hymns all the way to the Beach where several holiday-makers joined in the service which was led by our former Vicar, Rev Richard Ward-Smith. Lessons were read by Father David Barnes, Shorne Tilbey, Kenneth Boundy and Richard Painter. A wooden cross, lovingly created by Church-warden Richard Painter was cast into the waves by Shorne Tilbey at the sound and sight of the bell being rung. The collection for Parish Church funds was taken by John Cleave.
